Coffee Covered

A few weeks ago the fine folks over at Roast Magazine and Clive Coffee held a contest with the chance to win a copy of Roast Magazine’s new book “Coffee Covered”. Needless to say I had to enter, and I was overjoyed to find out a few days later I had won one of of the 5 copies they were giving away.

First impressions of this book are: it’s GORGEOUS! Even the feel of the book’s cover is quite unique. I’m a very tactile individual so little things like this are always appreciated. I have to admit I couldn’t put the book down. I read it cover to cover and must say that Mark Shimahara’s photography is stunning.

Mark has been a contributing photographer for Roast since 2011, and captures some truly remarkable places and people. Page after page is a delight to the eyes as you are taken through the journey of coffee from seedlings to siphon brewing and everything in between. The three main focuses are Origin, Production and Consumption, as Mark writes “coffee is a common thread that runs through remote farmland, big cities, and people across the globe.” I really appreciate his work in capturing this journey and the significance of each and every step.

Every image comes with a little write up, and each major section also comes with some informative elements that allows the reader to grow in their own understanding of the world of specialty coffee. This is a book for anyone who appreciates specialty coffee. It will look GREAT on your coffee-table (is that a pun?), and would also be a great book for anyone looking to learn more about the entire process of how specialty coffee begins and ends.
